We Train Our Staff To:
Help the service user with exercises
Turning a bedridden service user on a schedule
Helping the service user to eat and drink
Helping service users with their hygiene
Making the service user’s bed, changing the bedding, and providing them with toileting assistance
Keeping service user records up to date
Reporting all changes on the service users and other important observations to the Nurse/supervisor
Adhering to professional standards, following policies and procedures of the unit
Qualifications/Training All Staff Have:
- Health and safety: COSHH, RIDDOR, fire safety, food hygiene,
- Falls prevention, infection control, basic first aid, medication
- Equality, diversity, and human rights
- Dementia awareness
- Coronavirus Awareness
- People moving and handling & manual handling of object
- Sova: safeguarding of vulnerable adult and children
- MCA/DOLS: mental capacity act & the deprivation of liberty
- Customer service: communication and social skills
- Basic care principles: personal hygiene, nutrition in care, complaints handling
- End of life care, lone worker, information governance, conflict management
- Medication: control and administration of medicine level 3, drug calculation,
- Medication management
An online care certificate is completed by every Healthcare Assistant and the training is refreshed each year with any new legislation.
Healthcare Workers
The Healthcare assistants that work with Better Choice are selected for their compassion and care. We recruit slowly and question and test intensely to ensure we find the right people to support your staffing requirements.
A Health Care Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring that service users are not only comfortable, but also have their personal needs met. They also keep the managing Nurse/supervisor updated with the information about the conditions and mental states of the service users.
1 to 1 Specialists
At Better Choice Healthcare we are proud to state that we are 1 to 1 specialist. We realise that since the COVID 19 Pandemic, that 1 to 1 assignments have increased massively.
1 to 1 assignments are a huge drain on care home staffing, that’s where Better Choice Healthcare can support you. Our shift coordinators use the staff profiles we have to match the right carer to the service users requirements from age range to gender.
We normally assign the same carers to the service user to ensure continuity. We work closely with yourselves and social workers to ensure that everything is centred on the service user, from the bespoke care they receive to the invoicing procedures. Additionally, we train our specialist with social skills training. A training course that covers local etiquette, what words to use and not use, dining etiquette and how to make a good impression
Support Workers
Our support workers are Healthcare Assistants that have received extra training regarding to mental health management.
We work with many providers who have specific criteria from the person we place with them, and we are more than happy to oblige. Occasionally we get asked for drivers as some service users have their own transport, but don’t have the capability of driving.
Our team of support workers are trained in taking control in a friendly way and making friends instantly.
Nurses
We have a group of nurses that are incredibly experienced RGN and RGM.
Our nurses also are trained on social skills and British etiquette
